Chicago Skyway Gives Grants to Neighborhood Public Schools

Chicago, IL (December 9, 2016)— Skyway Concession Company LLC, for the second year in a row, presented monetary gifts to local Chicago public elementary schools as part of the Skyway School Support initiative.

The four schools chosen to receive $5,000 each in Skyway School Support grant money this year are:  Ninos Heroes Elementary in the 7th Ward; Schmid Elementary in the 8th Ward; Gallistel Elementary in the10th ward; and Fiske Elementary in 20th ward.  These schools were chosen in consultation with local elected officials in the neighborhoods through which the Chicago Skyway Toll Bridge runs.  The $5,000 grants will be used for school-specific needs, namely, to underwrite the purchase of new furniture for a media center at Schmid, to provide a variety of prize incentives for student achievement and attendance at Heroes and Gallistel, and to help subsidize a year of counseling services for Fiske students.

Skyway Chief Executive Officer Fernando Redondo and Chief Operating Officer Michael Lowrey toured all four schools with school leaders and local aldermen to meet personally with the students and wish them a happy holiday season.

“We want to make a positive impact on the lives of the young people in our neighborhood,” said Mr. Redondo, “Supporting local public schools around the Chicago Skyway through the Skyway School Support initiative is a very practical way to help school leaders and educators obtain the tools they need to help children in our community succeed both in school and in life.”
